Over forty years of teaching, the conversations I remember best haven't happened in classrooms. They've happened at kitchen tables, with parents who suspect their child learns differently and don't know what to do next, or who have a diagnosis and a folder full of reports but no clear path forward.
This blog is for those kitchen table conversations. I'll be writing practical pieces for parents of children with Special Educational Needs across the Arun and Adur districts and beyond: how to support a dyslexic child's reading at home, what an EHCP does and doesn't cover, how to rebuild confidence when school has knocked it, and how counselling-informed teaching helps children who have decided they "can't do it".
What to expect
Short, useful pieces, no jargon, no miracle claims. Everything I write here comes from the same belief that shapes my teaching: every child can learn, and the job is to find how. Where I touch on assessments or provision, I'll say plainly what is my professional view and what you should verify with your school or local authority.
